In 2020, Lohitaksh Foundation originated from the collective initiative of a group of friends driven by the desire to contribute to society. Their inspiration stemmed from the ideas of the founder of the Society for Organizational Learning, who advocated that "sustainability, social equality, and the environment are now business problems." Senge argued that corporate leaders should not rely solely on governments to address these challenges.
The genesis of these thoughts can be traced back to the liberalization of the Indian economy in the 1990s, which brought about significant opportunities. This economic shift not only revitalized businesses but also transformed India into both a market and an investment destination for the developed world. The working middle-class experienced a tangible improvement in disposable incomes and living standards. This period marked a unique phase where professionals in India could move beyond merely sustaining a livelihood and actively contribute to societal well-being.
Filled with passion, the founders of Lohitaksh translated their vision into reality, giving birth to Lohitaksh Foundation. Over the past two decades, Lohitaksh has matured into a sustainable social institution in India. It is dedicated to executing tangible initiatives on the ground, actively involving both society and businesses in the transformative process.
Along this journey, we confronted numerous challenges and consistently embraced innovation. This involved critical decisions such as opting for on-the-ground engagement through a service-delivery approach, applying management principles and adopting a business-oriented strategy in the development sector, devising a distinctive resource model centered around businesses, and championing the idea of civic-driven change. Invariably, we chose the less conventional path, and as the saying goes, that choice has made a significant impact.
